    Waterford — Terns were hunting for food Thursday, occasionally joined by other shorebirds, in the waters just off Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford.

    Great Gull Island, about 6 miles distant, is home to one of the largest colonies of common and roseate terns in North America.
