New London — A Canterbury man was charged last month with raping a woman inside her home.
Gerald Ward, 57, was charged June 17 with first-degree sexual assault in connection with a sexual assault that took place inside a home in New London on Nov. 8, 2019, according to police and court documents.
Ward knew the woman he assaulted, police said. Her age was not released.
The warrant for Ward's arrest took seven months to issue as a result of the department waiting on the results of laboratory work and investigating the incident, according to Capt. Brian Wright.
Ward was released on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Aug. 18.
