Pickup truck crashes into Chelsea Groton Bank building in New London; three people injured
New London — Three people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a pickup truck crashed into the Chelsea Groton Bank building at Bank Street and Montauk Avenue, city fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Rheaume said.
The three occupants of the vehicle were injured, including two seriously, and were transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, he said. The call reporting the crash came in at 9:44 p.m.
The truck hit a steel column and caused mostly damage to the facade of the building, Rheaume explained. He said the city building official responded to the scene and said the building can be occupied on Wednesday for business.
Representatives from Chelsea Groton Bank also responded and were in contact with someone to board up the building, he said.
No further information was immediately available Wednesday night.
