State police break up large college party in Mansfield

Mansfield -- State police say they broke up a Saturday night party attended by up to 200 college-age students who were ignoring COVID-19 precautions.

Police said that at approximately 11:24 p.m. troopers from the Mansfield Resident Troopers office responded to a home at 160 Birch Road after receiving a complaint about a large, loud party.

When they arrived, troopers witnessed the disturbance and observed numerous college-aged students inside the home. Police estimated 150 to 200 students then left the home. Police said mask wearing and social distancing were not adhered to during the party. The University of Connecticut is located in Storrs, a village of the Town of Mansfield.

The renters admitted to hosting the large party and were issued infraction tickets for hosting a large gathering in violation of the state restrictions.
