New London — Kayla Velez was pitching Wednesday for her younger brother Jaivon at Williams Park.

Jaivon plays for the varsity team at Grasso Tech but practice was canceled because of the weather. "The rain doesn't stop us, though," Kayla said of the two walking to the park so she could throw pitches for him. The siblings play baseball in the park once in a while.

"She's actually pretty good once she warms up," Jaivon said of his sister's pitching skills.

"It's hard to throw with an umbrella in your other hand, though," Kayla added.
