    Friends and Neighbors: Charter Oak names new mortgage officer

    Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has named Michael Fabian of East Lyme, a banker with extensive industry experience, as its new mortgage officer.

    Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and chief executive, cited Fabian’s “understanding of mortgage lending and his familiarity with our housing market” in making the announcement.

    Fabian joins a lending team at Charter Oak that has originated almost 11,000 mortgages in New London and Windham counties with a total value of nearly $1.4 billion over the past decade,, based on annual data compiled by the Massachusetts-based Warren Group’s Residential Mortgage Marketshare Report, accord to a release.

    Fabian spent 18 years within the banking industry, including six years of mortgage lending in a senior loan processing position. Fabian also has five years of real estate experience. Fabian is from Madison originally and is a graduate of Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire.

    Quinn Ryan, Waterford

    The Assumption University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has announced that Quinn Ryan, of Waterford, has earned membership in the Mathematics National Honor Society, Kappa Mu Epsilon. Ryan, Class of 2022, was inducted into the honor society during a virtual ceremony on April 29.

    Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society in mathematics.

    Members are selected from students of mathematics and actuarial science who have demonstrated a commitment to the pursuit of mathematics, maintained standards of scholarship in their major courses, and have attained academic distinction in their studies overall.

    Assumption University of Worcester, Mass., honored 80 students with academic awards for excelling in their individual fields of study at its annual spring Honors Convocation.

    Kaelin Lozier, Ledyard

    Kaelin Lozier, Class of 2021, of Ledyard, received the departmental award for women's studies. The departmental and special awards allow faculty to honor the most meritorious students in each of their primary programs of study.
