    Local golf notes

    • Old Lyme graduate Matt Fuller and Brett Shulick, a former UConn Avery Point baseball teammate of Matt’s brother Ryan, combined to place second at the CSGA’s 81st Four Ball Championship on Sept. 1 at Wallingford Country Club. They finished at 9-under, one shot behind champions David Flint and Tim Bickford who played on their home course.

The pair also competed in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifying event at Newport National Golf Club on Tuesday, finishing with a 2-under 70. They fell short of the qualifying scores.

It’s been a busy tournament golf season for Fuller, who also competed in the state amateur, state mid-amateur and Norwich Invitational. He finished as the runner-up for the second straight year in the Great Neck men’s club championship on Sept. 6.

“As long as I’m playing golf, I’m happy,” said Fuller after the Great Neck Country Club title match. Fuller lives in Essex.

    • Bill Hermanson of Black Hall Club won the CSGA’s Siderowf Tournament of Champions title on Sept. 9 at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club in South Kent. The Siderowf competition is for golfers 55 and over. Hermanson shot a 2-under 70.

“I have been playing really solid all year,” Hermanson said in a CSGA release. “It is always fun to play well and if you happen to win, especially a CSGA event it is pretty special.”

Hermanson will be in the field for the 76th Connecticut Senior Amateur event on Sept. 27 at The Patterson Club in Fairfield. Other locals signed up include Jim Ezold of Black Hall, Ken Sweitzer of Old Lyme, Michael Hawley of Stonington Country Club, Dave Jones, Jim Lawler and Tony Susi of Mohegan Sun Golf Club.
