Waterford resident charged with animal cruelty

Waterford — Police arrested a woman Wednesday for allegedly neglecting two dogs at her residence two months ago.

Brenna Sulinski, 39, of 8 Tyler Place, Quaker Hill, was charged with two counts each of animal cruelty, no rabies vaccination and unlicensed dog.

On Nov. 5, 2021, the Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control Office received notification from a concerned citizen on the well-being of animals at a residence in town. The animal control officer made numerous attempts to contact Sulinski, the resident of the home, with no success. The same concerned citizen provided the officer with photographs a week and a half later of two dogs in very poor condition in the residence.

On Nov. 17, the animal control officer, along with the police department, prepared and acquired a search and seizure warrant for the residence, and it was executed the same day. The residence was found unoccupied. The two dogs, found in poor condition, were removed and taken to a local veterinarian for proper care.

The town has taken legal ownership of the dogs and the animal control officer will continue working with the dogs to get them suitable for adoption.

Sulinski was held in lieu of a $10,000 court-set bond and appeared Thursday in New London Superior Court.
