Lou Tabackin headlines Side Door Friday and Saturday

There's a scene in "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," where the titular character, portrayed by Will Ferrell, single-handedly (and with no genuine ill will) essentially ruins the entire profession and legacy of jazz flute players through the ages. And that includes virtuosos such as Herbie Mann, Rashaan Roland Kirk, Eric Dolphy, Hubert Laws, Ali Ryerson and Lou Tabackin.

See what jazz flute is really all about Friday and Saturday when Tabackin brings his Trio to Old Lyme's Side Door Jazz Club. Just back from a prestigious performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Tabackin — who also excels at tenor saxophone — should be in prime condition to exorcise the satiric memories of Ron Burgundy and restore a bit of much-deserved dignity.

Lou Tabackin Trio, 8:30 p.m. Fri. and Sat., Side Door Jazz Club, 85 Lyme St., Old Lyme; $25-$45; www.thesidedoorjazz.com, (860) 434-0886.
