Groton ― Town police said a disturbance at Friday’s rescheduled football game between Robert E. Fitch High School and Norwich Free Academy involved players from both teams.

The altercation came amid heightened security stemming from concerns about trouble brewing over the game and a threat posted online.

In a press release Saturday, police said there were no injuries in the quickly dispersed altercation that erupted between the field house and the concession stand at the end of the game against Norwich Free Academy.

No arrests had been made as of Saturday.

Police said the incident remains under investigation. Officers will be working with staff members from both schools to identify the people involved.

The game, originally scheduled for Thursday evening, was played at 4 p.m. on Friday with increased security and a limited number of spectators.

The investigation into the online threat, which police said was brought to the attention of Fitch’s school resource officer by students, yielded a suspect Friday afternoon. Groton Town Police Chief L.J. Fusaro at the time identified the suspect as a student at a school in Groton who would be charged appropriately in the juvenile system. He said police would not be releasing any other information.
