Motor Route Driver
The Day is currently accepting applications for motor route drivers for the towns of Waterford and Norwich. A valid driver's license, a good driving record, proof of insurance, and a reliable vehicle is required. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. Excellent pay, early morning hours. 

Newsroom

Assistant to the Community Editor

  • Assist community editor in the layout, production and editing of the nine Times weeklies.
  • Write community news articles and briefs for Times, attaching and coordinating photographs as necessary.
  • Work with interactive editor and use social media and interactive skills to generate reader submissions for the weeklies while posting stories to multiple social media accounts weekly.
  • Post stories, photographs and videos; monitor and remove comments and send text alert messages on the day.com and on social media sites as directed.
  • Some nights and weekends required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Some weekly or daily journalism experience required. Prior editing experience a plus; strong planning skills essential.
  • Web-savvy journalist who is skilled at effective social media techniques.
  • Can shoot and edit video, or is willing to learn, and is capable of producing and adding story, photo and video content to The Day's digital portals.
  • Knowledge of AP style, digital and newspaper design best practices and some web coding experience will be considered an asset.

Town Reporter

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Covering government and other news and writing features for The Day, The Times and theday.com.
  • Covering breaking news as assigned.
  • Working as part of a team to cover major stories, such as the pandemic.
  • Shooting video and photographs when needed to illustrate stories.
  • Working with our online team to engage readers.
  • Tracking metrics to continuously refine beat.
  • Some night and weekend shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. Degree
  • 1-2 years of daily reporting experience preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with social media, audio and video and data bases.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work as part of a team.
  • Must have the ability to make deadlines and balance multiple projects.
  • Driver's license and own vehicle required.

Sr. Web/WordPress Developer
The Senior Web Developer is responsible for high quality design, development, testing, and support of client websites, database, servers, and other technology resources. He/she is responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and with a high degree of best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, test, and maintain websites, databases, APIs, and other technology resources
  • Source, monitor, and maintain a collection of websites and applicationsPlay a key role in large, complex technical projects that achieve key business goals
  • Ensure day-to-day tasks are performed correctly, following protocols and best practices
  • Work with other team leaders to achieve project goals on time
  • Inform senior leadership of new tech ideas, products, and approaches that could help the business grow and improve customer experiences

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree related to the field
  • 7+ years relevant work experience
  • Ability to code and program websites and web pages, including backend payment processing
  • Highly skilled in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, MySQL
  • Experience building and adjusting WordPress websites
  • Ability to manage complex projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technology issues
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical colleagues
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, agile work environment
  • Skills in leading a small team to accomplish great outcomes a plus

Customer Service

Customer Service Call Center Representative
This is a part time, (24-26 hours per week) position with the opportunity for additional hours to cover departmental need that may arise.  We are looking for a flexible team player with customer service and data entry skills.  Responsibilities include servicing and handling customer inquiries, requests and concerns by phone or the web, while inputting data and updating customer account information; maintaining continued contact with customers to help resolve customer service issues. No cold calling telemarketing involved.
