Beer'd, Sean Nugent honored for economic development efforts

The Connecticut Economic Resource Center has announced Sean Nugent, chairman of the Preston Redevelopment Agency, and Beer'd Brewing Company as two of 21 honorees statewide for their impact on economic development.

They are the honorees for Southeastern/New London, one of 10 regions across Connecticut, and were selected by economic development officials in the region.

The 21 programs and leaders will be honored at CERC's eighth annual Celebrate CT event on Nov. 30 at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford.

"These awards acknowledge key people, programs and projects that are stimulating new jobs and investment in our economy," CERC President and CEO Robert Santy said in a news release. "They are well earned and well-deserved."

The honorees are being recognized for factors like growing employment levels, civic engagement and public-private partnerships.

Beer'd, which has been open since late 2012, is a microbrewery housed in the Velvet Mill in Stonington. Nugent is being honored for his work on the former Norwich Hospital site, also known as Preston Riverwalk.
