All things automotive began to permeate Mohegan Sun on Wednesday, the start of Barrett-Jackson’s 3rd Annual Northeast Auction of collector cars.

The event opened with "Family Value Day" and a preview inside the casino’s new Earth Expo & Convention Center, where some of the cars and “automobilia” items that will be auctioned Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Mohegan Sun Arena were on display. The automobilia auction will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, followed by the collector car auction.

Craig Jackson, chairman and chief executive officer of Barrett-Jackson, unveiled two last-production cars that will be sold Saturday to benefit the United Way — a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and a 2017 Dodge Viper. The last of some 3,300 Demons ever produced rolled off the production line in Brampton, Ontario, last month and will be paired with the last Viper in a single sale.

The auction of the two cars will be aired live at 3 p.m. Saturday during the Discovery Channel’s coverage of the event.

Some state lawmakers and local officials toured the Barrett-Jackson setup at the Expo Center on Tuesday.

The four-day event is expected to draw more than 100,000 visitors.
