Pawcatuck redevelopment forum slated for June 28

Stonington — The Economic Development Commission and Department of Planning have scheduled a forum on downtown Pawcatuck redevelopment opportunities for 3 p.m. Thursday at Cherenzia & Associates, 99 Mechanic St.

The EDC and planners will discuss recent zoning changes and economic incentives to allow more commercial uses and spur investment downtown. These include the PV-5 zone and Heritage Mill District, economic incentives such as tax increment financing and a change that allows owners to invest up to 50 percent of the property’s value in one year on improvements without triggering required flood improvements, as opposed to the previous five-year “look-back period.” Town officials said the five-year look-back was a barrier to investment and revitalization.

In recent weeks, plans have been announced for three vacant downtown buildings.

There will be time for developers, contractors, realtors, town officials and property owners to collaborate and explore development opportunities, as well.

For more information, contact Stonington Economic Development Commission member Jim Lathrop at jimlathrop@yahoo.com or (860) 912-7750. Those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing Lathrop.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
