Montville — The new American Job Center here is hosting a micro career fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The event is part of a series sponsored by the state Department of Labor and is intended to provide job seekers in the region with additional resources for their search.

Participating employers have registered on CTHires, the department's employment network and online job bank. They include: Cross Sound Deli in New London, Electric Boat in Groton and New London, the Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Inc. in Norwich and United Cerebral Palsy in Groton. The positions available range from cooking and facility maintenance to specialized jobs such as skilled carpenter and entry-level embedded software engineer.

The job center is located at 601 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Suite 1, Uncasville. Job seekers who are planning to attend the career expo must register first by visiting www.CTHires.com. They also should bring copies of their resume and any certifications that qualify them for a specific position. Wearing professional clothing is recommended.

"Our Montville Micro Career Fairs have been very successful in connecting employers with (job seekers) ... Our goal is to help employers find the employees they need, and to provide (job seekers) with opportunities to meet one-on-one with local businesses," state Labor Commissioner Kurt Westby said in a release announcing the event.
