Stonington police commissioners endorse final two phases of Perkins Farm project

Mystic — The Stonington Board of Police Commissioners on Thursday endorsed the parking and road plans for the proposed second and third phases of the Perkins Farm project on Jerry Browne Road.

The support comes on top of the Stonington Architectural Design Review Committee approval this week of the building designs for phase two, a 50-unit townhouse condominium project, and phase three, a $24 million, 47,000-square-foot medical facility being built by Hartford Healthcare. The site plans also gained fire department approval on Thursday, according to developer David Lattizori.

The site plans for the two phases now move on to the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission for approval. The PZC already has approved a master plan for the entire project as well as the site plan for phase one, a $16.3 million project that calls for 121 upscale apartments. Construction is underway on the apartments.

The police commission now will send a letter to the PZC stating all safety and parking issues have been addressed for phases two and three but members want to make sure there will be adequate communication from within the buildings for first responders, as well as security cameras.

The master plan calls for a total of 100,000 square feet of medical and research space in phase three and Lattizori said Thursday that another medical building is a possibility for the site. Phase 3 is expected to create hundreds of permanent, well-paying jobs.
