Eastern Mountain Sports to host grand opening in new location

Waterford — Eastern Mountain Sports, the outdoor retailer, has moved into space in the Bob’s Stores outlet at 167 Waterford Parkway North, where it will host a grand-opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday.

First Selectman Dan Steward is expected to participate, Chris Bergin, district manager for both Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob's Stores, said Tuesday.

“We’re getting the two brands together, hoping to promote some cross-shopping,” Bergin said. “We’re looking to get a good restart in Waterford.”

Eastern Mountain Sports had operated for years at 5 Dayton Place, opposite Crystal Mall. Its original Waterford location was in the mall.

Sports Direct, Britain’s largest sporting goods company, owns both the Bob’s Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports chains, having acquired their previous owner, Eastern Outfitters, out of bankruptcy in 2017.

Eastern Mountain Sports opened in its new location Sept. 1.

After Saturday’s ceremony, the store will open for business at 9:30 a.m., Bergin said, with the first 100 customers receiving gift cards. Throughout the day, every customer who makes a purchase will get to spin a “prize wheel.”

    The store’s hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
