Subvets plan memorial service Nov. 11
U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. Groton Base will be hosting a memorial service in commemoration of Veterans Day at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at the Groton Municipal Building, 295 Meridian St. The public is invited to attend.
Coast Guard Band concert Nov. 17
The Coast Guard Band will hold a free concert, “Tempus Fugit,” on Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. in Leamy Hall. Under the direction of Captain Adam Williamson, the program features works by Jay Kennedy, Felix Mendelssohn, Percy Grainger, Alexandra Gardner, Pierre Leemans, Gerard Schwarz and Paul Hindemith. Program on the probate process Nov. 14
Bill Memorial Library will host local attorney Rochelle Duyan on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. for a program on navigating the probate process. Duyan will discuss probate and answer questions, providing insights for anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one. For more information, call 860-445-0392.
Noank holiday bazaar Nov. 23
The Noank Baptist Church’s 78th Annual Holiday Bazaar has all of the magic of a bygone era, mixed with the excitement of the upcoming holiday season. Kris Kringle, aka Lou Toscano, affectionately known as Mr. T, will be arriving in the morning to kick off the holiday season. The Noank Village will be holding the event on Nov. 23, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Silent auction closes at 2 p.m.
Retired Teachers Association event Nov. 19
The New London County Retired Teachers Association will hold a buffet lunch business meeting at Prime 82 on Nov. 19. The cost is $30, which includes lunch and the program. Registration starts at 11 a.m., with the business meeting from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the buffet from noon to 1 p.m. The program, titled “A Funny Program about Funny Programs: The Greatest Sitcoms of All Time,” will be hosted by award-winning author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin. Fort Griswold chocolate event Nov. 16
The Friends of Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park are hosting Edward Dirgo and Robert Lecce from Pewter Pot Fine Spiced Chocolates on Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Monument House Museum. Registration is required due to limited seating. Attendees will have the chance to sample chocolate and hot cocoa, with chocolate bars and cocoa available for purchase afterward. First Congregational Elephants-in-Winter Sale
The First Congregational Church of Old Lyme will host the Elephants-in-Winter Sale on Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organized by the Ladies Benevolent Society, the event will include a variety of holiday items: Christmas decorations, linens, toys, books and handmade crafts. The Pomfret Historical Society Presentation
East Lyme historian Tom Schuch will give a presentation to the Pomfret Historical Society at 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 titled “New London: A Microcosm of American History. Slavery, the REAL West Indies Trade and the Struggle for Freedom and Civil RIghts, 1637-2023.“ A social time at the Pomfret Community Center is set aside a half hour before the presentation. Mystic River Brass Ensemble at library Nov. 16
The Bill Memorial Library will host the Mystic River Brass Ensemble concert on Nov. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. This volunteer group from Southeastern Connecticut is known for performing brass music at community events. Creative Way group starts in Norwich
The Creative Way, a monthly gathering focused on creativity and spirituality, will start up Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Center in Norwich. Inspired by Julia Cameron’s "The Artist’s Way" and Karen Armstrong's "Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life," the group practices daily writing, mindfulness walks, and creative "playdates." Oddities on display at Old Mystic center
The Old Mystic History Center is showcasing “Charles Q. Eldredge: An Old Mystic Original,” showing the unique collection of Eldredge, who was born in Old Mystic in 1845 and developed an extensive collection of mementos and souvenirs that he assembled into a small museum on the Mystic River. Como hosts sing-along show Nov. 23
A magical morning of music and fun is planned at the Stonington Community Center’s Dreamers Sing-Along Show starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.
The 30-minute sing-along will include hits from Disney’s “Encanto” and “Tangled.” After the performance, guests will have the opportunity to meet and take photos with their favorite characters - Mirabel, Rapunzel, and Flynn Ryder, brought to life by Simply Enchanted from Westerly.
