Sun re-sign assistant Poole, promote Koclanes

The Connecticut Sun announced Monday the re-signing of assistant coach Brandi Poole and the promotion of Chris Koclanes to assistant coach.

Poole, who joined the franchise last season, will work with the post players while Koclanes will focus on working with the Sun guards. Koclanes replaces Steve Smith, who has taken a high school athletic director position in Los Angeles.

Smith worked the past three seasons under Curt Miller, Connecticut’s head coach and general manager.

“Chris was one of my first hires upon arriving in Connecticut and has played a major role in our growth and success,” Miller said. “Simply stated, he is one of the most talented young coaches that I have been around in my 30-year career. Chris worked directly with our guards last season and has spearheaded our scouting since his arrival.”

Poole was an assistant coach for Miller at both Indiana and Bowling Green for 13 seasons.

“I am truly excited to have Brandi back for the 2019 season,” Miller said. “She immediately connected with our players last season and did a great job with our post game, including the All-Star season of Chiney Ogwumike and Sixth Player of the Year Jonquel Jones. We have been fortunate to win a combined 13 regular season and conference tournament titles together, but our focus now is to bring the first WNBA Championship to Connecticut.”
