Washington — The Washington Mystics were without starters Elena Delle Donne and Alysha Clark when they suffered a 79-71 loss to the Connecticut Sun back on May 28.

Both were back on Sunday ... and that turned out to be bad news for the Sun.

Delle Donne scored all 15 of her points in the first half and Clark keyed a second-quarter spurt that broke the game open early as Washington rolled to a 71-63 victory over Connecticut in a WNBA game that wasn't really that close.

"We got outplayed, but it started from the top," Sun coach Curt Miller said. "We got outcoached and I felt bad for the players because it seemed like I couldn't push any of the right buttons ... and then we just missed a boatload of shots that we're capable of making.

"There was just no flow and we couldn't get into a rhytym in the first half, and you have to give credit to them. They deserved that win."

Delle Donne converted a three-point play and then hit a 3-pointer about a minute later to make it 14-9 midway through the first quarter and the Mystics led the rest of the way.

Connecticut scored six consecutive points to trim its deficit to eight nearly-2 minutes later but Clark scored four points in a 7-0 spurt that made it 38-23 with 6 minutes left in the first half and the Sun couldn't recover.

Washington (11-7) would lead 43-27 at the half 61-41 after three quarters before the Sun reserves make things more respectable in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mystics 22-10.

Clark, Ariel Atkins and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough each scored added 10 points for Washington.

Jonquel Jones had 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Sun (12-5) and was the only Connecticut player in double figures.

The Sun, who came into the game No. 2 in the WNBA in scoring at 87.9 points per game, shot just 36.7% (22 of 60) from the field and were limited to their lowest scoring output of the season.

"We didn't find our rhythym, so it was just one of those games where things just didn't go our way," Jones said. "We're going to learn from it and we're going to grow from it, but ultimately it was just us not being ourselves more then anything they were doing.

"We've just got to be better."

Connecticut returns home to Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday night to face the New York Liberty at 7 p.m.
