Convicted sex offender gets 30 months in New London case

A judge in New London on Wednesday sentenced a convicted sex offender who identifies as an intersex woman to 30 months in prison for exchanging nude photos with a 13-year-old girl.

Brandy Wood, 28, was denied a request to serve the sentence in the state’s only women’s prison. The request to be incarcerated at York Correctional Institution in Niantic was denied by the state Department of Correction’s Gender Non-Conforming Review Committee, defense attorney Michael Miller said in court.

Wood had previously pleaded no contest to the charge of risk of injury to a minor and is expected to remain on the state’s sexual offender registry. Wood, described by police as having the physical appearance of a male, was arrested on Feb. 8, 2022. New London police had investigated Wood’s online relationship with a girl from Park City, Utah.

Wood was previously convicted of two counts of risk of injury to a minor and second-degree assault of a minor. Wood had also violated terms of probation and was on parole at the time the latest offense was committed, records show.

Corrections records show Wood is housed at Cheshire Correctional Institution, a men’s prison.
