Coast Guard Band plays holiday music Sunday

Proving that even such outfits as the esteemed United States Coast Guard Band enjoy a good pun, the ensemble presents its “Silver and Gould: A Holiday Celebration” concert Sunday in Leamy Hall on the campus of the Coast Guard Academy in New London.

The title references Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer Morton Gould, whose “Serenade of Carols” is one of the featured compositions in a panoply of family-friendly seasonal classics. Chief Warrant Officer and assistant director of the band Jeffrey Spenner will conduct.

The performance is free but reservations are required. Note: a portion of Leamy Hall’s parking lot is under construction and the main entry to the venue is closed. Entry will be through the northeast door by the Dry Dock restaurant; it’s handicapped accessible.

“Silver and Gould: A Holiday Celebration,” the United States Coast Guard Band, 2 p.m. Sunday, Leamy Hall, United States Coast Guard Academy, 15 Mohegan Ave., New London; free; registration required at https://us-coast-guard-band.ticketleap.com.
