Albert Lee is in concert at the Kate

Over the years, the wonderful, country-flavored British guitar virtuoso Albert Lee has toured through our part of the world numerous times. He’ll be here again Saturday when he graces the stage at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center Saturday.

I was trying to remember what I’d last written about him, so I googled “Albert Lee” in our archives and turned up a 2022 reference to “ALVIN Lee” — who was a wonderful blues-rock British guitar virtuoso from the band Ten Years After (but isn’t anymore because he’s dead).

However, the “Alvin Lee” in our archives turns out to be an East Lyme High School student who’d made the honor roll. (Congrats, Alvin!)

It did make me wonder: Are the parents of East Lyme High School honor student Alvin Lee fans of Ten Years After and thus named their son in guitarist Alvin Lee’s honor? This caused me to speculate whether ELHS honor-kid Alvin — if indeed he IS named after Alvin — has a brother who might be named after Albert Lee.

For that particular honor roll, there was no “Albert Lee,” but there could be many reasons for that including that he doesn’t have a brother.

ANYHOO, my original plan was to talk about how great the 79-year-old Albert Lee still is, and that you should seize this chance to see and hear him. Really, your only excuse not to do so is if A) you’re Ten Years After’s Alvin Lee and are still buried, or B) you’re East Lyme honor student Alvin Lee and have to study.

    Albert Lee, 8 p.m. Saturday, The Kate, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $36; www.thekate.org., (860) 510-0453.
