Pure country-rock
John David Call has been a member of seminal country-rock group Pure Prairie League since I was in the ninth grade — which is to say right after Theodore Roosevelt was elected president for the second time.
Long live Pure Prairie League!
Time and attrition have whittled away at the original membership roster in PPL, but Call — a splendid steel guitarist — continues to curate the legacy of the band with artistically committed musicians. The latest incarnation of the group comes to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center Tuesday.
Expect recitations of “Amie” and “Two Lane Highway” as well as cherished material from such albums as “Bustin’ Out,” “Two Lane Highway” and “Dance.”
Pure Prairie League, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $66; www.thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
