Greta Van Fleet comes to Mohegan Sun
Even if you’re only a very casual rock music fan, you know the band I’m talking about when I say its members were Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and John Bonham.
(SSSSH! DON’T SAY THE GROUP NAME OUT LOUD!)
Y’see, there’s a much newer rock quartet, a Michigan act called Greta Van Fleet, formed in 2012 and, over the course of three albums, they’ve achieved much success to the extent that they’re headlining Friday in the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Here’s the thing. In well over 100,000 articles, radio, TV and streaming interviews and sundry casual conversations between fans, in EVERY case Greta Van Fleet has been compared by name to that Jimmy/Robert/John Paul/John band.
So, officially, this is the first media coverage of GVV where the other band’s name will not appear.
Does all this mean Greta Van Fleet are merely replicating the sound of that other act? Well, particularly in the early years, you could hear similarities. As they’ve matured, not so much. GVF is a very good hard rock band and, as per their latest album, “Starcatcher,” they’ve evolved and now they sound like, well, THEM. And that’s a good thing.
