    Reliably rockin’ Rhythm & Roots

    Drive-by Truckers (Brantley Gutierrez)

Sure, you can shoehorn your way into the sweaty crowds at Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza or Rock in Rio. It’ll be fun! It’ll cost thousands of dollars! Maybe you’ll even get within 600 yards of the stage when Lana Del Ray or SZA or Travis Scott or the Killers perform!

Or, sensibly, you can always wait for Labor Day weekend and take a leisurely cruise to Charlestown, R.I., for the consistently great Rhythm & Roots Festival. It takes place in Ninigret Park Friday through Sunday and this year’s version boasts a particularly strong lineup all three days.

Emmylou Harris, Old Crow Medicine Show, Drive-by Truckers, Larkin Poe, Rebirth Brass Band, Shemekia Copeland and Glen David Andrews are just a few of the artists descending on Little Rhody.

As always, there will be dancing, workshops, food and beverage to enhance the experience.

My own recommendation: do NOT miss Old Crow or the Truckers.
