The Mystic Arts Center (MAC) opens their Annual Members Show featuring a solo sculpture exhibit by artist Gil Boro.

The Annual Members Show features a variety of creative artwork in all mediums from Mystic Arts Center members.

Gilbert V. Boro is a sculptor, architect and international design consultant. Boro's work has earned numerous awards over the years and has been exhibited in galleries, art centers, public art venues and private collections in the U.S. and Europe.

An exhibit of items in the permanent collection of the Latin Network for the Visual Arts, a local nonprofit organization that seeks to enrich the community through exposure to contemporary art from countries where Romance languages are spoken. This diverse exhibition features paintings, photography and sculpture from artists in Spain, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Peru. There will be a talk and reception on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 4:15 p.m. The exhibit is sponsored by the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity and the Department of History.

Studio 33 presents “Winter on the Shore”, a collective group of area artist’s work-photography, oils, watercolors, mixed media and acrylics. The exhibition includes the work of the late Robert Hauschild – lighthouses on bricks and lighthouse watercolors. This show runs through March 21.

Langston Hughes Poetry Reading Returns;

The MAC's fourth Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading will feature poets, educators, artists, students and members of the community celebrating the legacy of the renowned African American poet with readings from Hughes' voluminous body of work. James Coleman, professor emeritus and chair of the humanities department at Three Rivers Community College, fiction writer and NEA Fellowship Recipient will give the keynote address. Langston Hughes came into prominence during the Harlem Renaissance period of the 1920's. His work dealt with issues related to the culture and experiences of African Americans. We look forward to welcoming you as we celebrate the life of a man whose work remains as relevant today as the day it was written.

The ceremony honors the actions of four army chaplains who were aboard the transport ship Dorchester when it was torpedoed and sunk by German Submarine U-223. Members of the clergy who have been gracious enough to participate in the ceremony are:
