Mud on the Connecticut River and Sea Level Rise

Thursday, Apr. 19, 2018, 5:00 pm
Mud on the Connecticut River and Sea Level Rise;

Education/Lectures

Old Lyme Town Hall, 52 Lyme St, Old Lyme, CT , 06371

Sea level rise is an inevitable effect of climate change and global warming. Living at the 41st latitude, our communities sit at "ground zero" for the most intense collision of melting icecaps from Greenland and Antarctica. Can the dynamic velocities of the Connecticut River provide protection for the retention of our wetlands, delaying the impact of the worst sea level rise, and buying more time for residents? Critical to this question is how fine grained sediment is transported and stored within the system. Presented by Jonathan Woodruff. RSVP here.

Green Tea Light at The IRONS

Thursday, Apr. 19, 2018, 7:00 pm
Green Tea Light at The IRONS;

Music

The IRONS Restaurant & Bar at Hilton Mystic, 20 Coogan Boulevard, Mystic, CT , 06355

Green Tea was formed in 2001... after 16 years they are going strong with a wealth of original material, a 5th studio CD in the works and contagious momentum. The seven-piece line up consists of two guitars, bass, keys, drums, percussion and the dynamic Amie Coffey on vocals.

Toby Kniffin is the primary songwriter, with his well-crafted compositions work. He has been playing and writing for over twenty-five years, has performed up and down the East Coast and has learned how to harness emotion and craft songs that can be delivered by a live band. He spent the late 80s and most of the 90s fronting the very successful group Third Stone. Since then he has been a leading force in the bands Liquid Dead, based out of Burlington, VT and The Desolation Angels from New York. Rounding out the line-up are Jamie Conroy, Marty Moroney, Michael Chicoria, Jason Hartley and Gino Maiorano. Music influencing the sound of Green Tea ranges from the melody and magic of Garcia/Hunter, to the driving rock n roll and melody work of the Allman Brothers. Mix that with a Dylanesque writing approach that focuses on the lost art of “the song”….you get Green Tea, a unique and rich sound that is chock full of our forefathers, yet pushes all corners of the proverbial envelope.

New London Drone Orchestra Spring Concert

Thursday, Apr. 19, 2018, 7:30 pm
New London Drone Orchestra Spring Concert;

Music

Harkness Chapel, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Avenue, New London, CT , 06320

We are a collective that creates music that makes listeners feel like they are outside time—or unusually present. Our members, a mix of staff and students from Connecticut College and community members from the eastern part of the state, play guided group improvisations from graphic scores, concepts, and instructions dreamed up by group members.

A drone is a sustained frequency or cluster of tones, an ancient form of musical expression. Drone music is minimal and evolves gradually--perfect for meditation or drifting away. (Sorry, no autonomous flying vehicles.)
