Janet McKenzie's art will be displayed at Mercy by the Sea, 167 Neck Rd, from March 18 - April 29 with an Opening Reception on March 18 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Artist Janet McKenzie is known for inclusive paintings honoring diversity with a commitment to celebrating the sanctity of women.
Janet McKenzie first came to national prominence in 2000 with her controversial dark interpretation of Christ, Jesus of the People, which won the National Catholic Reporter's "Jesus 2000" global art competition. Revealed for the first time on The Today Show, the painting, which invariably generates conversation, received a worldwide response. Orbis Books published the book, Holiness and the Feminine Spirit: The Art of Janet McKenzie, which won the 2010 First Place Award for Spirituality from the Catholic Press Association, and The Way of the Cross: The Path to New Life, a collaboration with Sister Joan Chittister, OSB.

LYME Academy College of Fine Arts is a college of the University of New Haven. Its mission is to educate aspiring artists through a rigorous studio curriculum rooted in figurative and representational art. The college offers a comprehensive liberal arts education essential for advanced critical and creative thought. The program reflects a deep respect for both traditional and innovative forms of teaching and provides an unrivaled foundation for developing unique visual expressions. Upon completion of their studies, students will be equipped not only to articulate their culture but also to give it shape and substance.

Love is in the air at Kent Hall! Continuing their 59th season, the Chorus of Westerly and conductor Andrew Howell present SONGS OF LOVE on Saturday, March, 17 at 6pm and Sunday, March 18 at 2pm, two concerts of choral music themed around love.

The charming program is a unique way to experience the 190-voice Chorus of Westerly in an intimate staging, with piano accompaniment and the men, women and children vocal sections each being featured with their own pieces. Highlights include Chilcott’s “God so loved the world,” Durufle’s “Ubi caritas,” and several works by Peter Niedmann.
