Author Luloff discusses amnesia novel Thursday in Westerly

    Joanna Luloff (joannaluloff.com)

Noted short story author Joanna Luloff's debut novel, "Remind Me Again What Happened," is getting fine reviews as a narrative that relies on thriller conventions to explore the fragile qualities and reliability of memory.

After journalist Claire contracts encephalitis in India, she awakens in a Florida hospital essentially unable to remember anything of her life from the ages of 18 to 34. She's then returned to her home in Vermont and cared for by folks identified as her husband Charlie and her best friend Rachel. But can she rely on the accuracy of slowly returning bits and pieces of her life — or are they being subtly nuanced by her two caregivers?

Luloff will discuss and sign copies of "Remind Me Again What Happened" tonight at the Savoy Bookshop & Café in Westerly.

Joanna Luloff, 7 p.m. tonight, Savoy Bookshop & Café, 10 Canal St., Westerly; free; (401) 213-3901.
