Drop In Story Time
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, 10:30 amKids/Family
Stonington Free Library, 20 High St., Stonington, CT , 06378
Drop In Story Time for Ages 2–5. We reinforce early literacy skills through books, songs and finger plays. There is also a craft based on the weekly theme.
Our Story Times employ techniques aimed at developing Early Literacy skills and enabling caregivers to reinforce the same skills at home. We are avid proponents of reading aloud to children, long past the time they have learned to read themselves. This improves listening skills, attention span, fluency, increases vocabulary and develops a love for story. These are all skills necessary for a successful school transition. In addition, you will find educational toys and computers in the Children’s area, along with AWE Early Learning stations offering digital literacy programs for pre-K and elementary schoolers.

Flogging Molly at Foxwoods Resort Casino
Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, 7:30 pmMusic
Foxwoods Resort Casino, 350 Trolley Line Boulevard, Mashantucket, CT , 06338
The social and political awareness that drives Flogging Molly’s music is never more prominent than in their new release LIFE IS GOOD - a strikingly powerful album and it arrives at a strikingly key time. The sixth studio album by the renowned Celtic-punk rockers now in their 20th year is mature, well crafted, equally polished and almost aggressively topical. It is filled with rousing songs that are timeless in their sentiment, but directly related to today’s most pressing concerns. The show, with special guest Lucero, is February 21, 2019 at 7:30PM. Tickets are $45, $59.50.

Become a FrogWatch Citizen Scientist! In just 10 minutes a week, you can collect valuable information on local frog and toad populations that help to identify the scope and geographic scale of population declines. Throughout this two-hour workshop, participants will become certified FrogWatch USA volunteers trained in local amphibian vocalizations, ready to take charge of their own field and submit data into a national survey. As important predators and prey in the environment and indicators of environmental health, the information we collect can be used form conservation plans to protect these important species. This program is free, but we do ask that you register.
Stay tuned for details on a field training workshop after the thaw!
