Oil Painting for Beginners class with Jackie Jones;

Education/Lectures

Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT , 06371

This class is designed for those new to oil painting. We will begin by making our own value scales (black and white) and then color wheels. Composition and paint application will be explored as we paint a basic still life in black and white (learn how to apply the paint to the canvas and create a pleasing design). Lastly a color mixing class followed by a simple still life in full color concentrating on brushwork. This class is not only for beginners but for those that wish to explore the basics further.

Tuesdays 9am-12pm, January 8 - March 12

Please contact Jackie with any questions or to register: jjonesart@cox.net

Fluid Watercolor and Acrylics class with Bob Noreika;

Education/Lectures

Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT , 06371

Robert Noreika shares his signature “fluid” painting method. Students are invited to work in either watercolor or acrylic, and will experience Robert’s relaxed teaching approach, which has been enjoyed by many students and professional artists through the years. Robert has an incredible ability to spontaneously see the big picture and transfer it onto paper by assessing different values and colors to create a painting, not an illustration. Students will learn to take the essence of the subject and transform it into a pleasing painting, while achieving strong, cohesive value patterns with interesting shapes. Using simple palette combinations along the journey, the group will work creatively from still life setups, outdoors in good weather, and photographs. Students of all levels, including beginners, will enjoy working with Robert in a structured and accommodating, yet humorous and fun atmosphere.
Tuesdays, 1 - 4 pm, January 8 - March 12
Please contact Bob directly at robertnoreikaart@aol.com or (860) 563-2787

Drop In Storytime

Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, 10:30 am
Drop In Storytime;

Kids/Family

Stonington Free Library, 20 High Street, Stonington, CT , 06378

Drop in for a story and play time geared to babies — age 2. We offer stories, songs, finger plays and rhymes. Early literacy skills are introduced in a relaxed atmosphere. There is time for socializing and play afterward.

Our Story Times employ techniques aimed at developing Early Literacy skills and enabling caregivers to reinforce the same skills at home. We are avid proponents of reading aloud to children, long past the time they have learned to read themselves. This improves listening skills, attention span, fluency, increases vocabulary and develops a love for story. These are all skills necessary for a successful school transition. In addition, you can find educational toys and computers in the Children’s area, along with AWE Early Learning stations offering digital literacy programs for pre-K and elementary schoolers.
