    The Season of Wonderment begins at Lyman Allyn Art Museum

    The Lyman Allyn Art Museum kicks off its Season of Wonderment on Saturday with the opening of its newest family-friendly exhibit, "Grand Menagerie: Animals in Art!"

    The Season of Wonderment runs through December and includes an array of activities and programs. 

    "Grand Menagerie: Animals in Art!," opening 10 a.m. Saturday and on view through Jan. 26. Discover a zoo’s worth of animals existing within the museum’s collection — in paintings, ceramics, sculpture, drawings, bronze, textiles and more. The exhibition features over 50 artworks and artifacts on display from the museum’s collection and interactive activities.

    Cupcakes & Cocoa Family Parties, 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 8 and 15. After a hot chocolate bar and festive treats in the Hendel Library, children and adults can explore a "Grand Menagerie"-themed I-Spy activity. Then, everyone will head to the studio to sculpt their own exotic animals out of clay. The event price is $15 for adults, $12 for kids, and free for children 3 and under. Full payment is required at the time of reservation. Space is limited; call (860) 443-2545, ext. 2129, to reserve a spot.

    Free First Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 7. Explore the museum and create snowstorm paintings 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the art studio. Free admission for everyone all day.

    Science Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 21. Create a river of cascading colors during this frozen rainbow eruption activity. Free with admission.
