According to the calendar, autumn officially arrived Wednesday. On the other hand, some meteorologists in our part of the world talk about "calendar autumn," wherein the seasonal changes take place more directly in line with a September/October/November "fall season."

And then there's the overwhelming majority of local citizenry who fervently subscribe to the idea that autumn gets underway precisely with Brewfest at the Beach, which takes place Friday in the pavilion at New London's Ocean Beach Park.

Dozens — a hundred or more? — craft brews will be available for sampling along with various clever malt beverages and wines. There will be food options from a variety of food trucks and, as always, proceeds go to Camp Rotary, a facility and program that benefits New London middle school kids.
