Tony winner Stephen Lynch appears at the Kate Saturday
A man who turns into a wolf on the full moon is called a werewolf. A creature that's part bull and part man is a minotaur.
And a half-musician/half comedian is called Stephen Lynch, who performs Saturday at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.
Several years back, as a struggling musician and comic, Lynch's amusing tunes caught the ears of execs at Comedy Central and he's since become a major personality for the network. He's released numerous CDs and specials, and also hit the Broadway stage starring in the title role of "The Wedding Singer" — for which he won a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
Lynch's subject matter can bounce between delightfully childish and poignantly sophisticated, but they're always instantly memorable. Plus, his onstage magnetism makes you feel like you're best pals.
Stephen Lynch, 8 p.m. Saturday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $40; www.thekate.org, (860) 510-0473.
