In this part of the country, where the autumn foliage can be so bright your eyes melt, there are plenty of other signifiers that summer's coming to an end.

One might be the Labor Day weekend music festival known as Rhythm & Roots, taking place as always on Friday through Sunday at Ninigret Park in Charlestown, R.I. The event is by now one of the biggest roots fests in the country, and this year's solid lineup should only bolster that.

There are three performance stages, and Friday's headliners are Dustbowl Revival, Matt Anderson & The Bona Fide, and Donna the Buffalo with Preston Frank and Ed Poulliard.

On Saturday, the bill is topped by Lucinda Williams & Buick 6, the Taj Mahal Trio, and Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas.

Sunday's main acts are Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, the David Grisman Sextet, and Dave and Phil Alvin & the Guilty ones.

All told, over 40 artists will perform — and there will be musical workshops, storytelling, dance lessons, kids and teen films, and a huge variety of great food and craft beers.
