Comedian Kathleen Madigan hits up Foxwoods Friday

The thing that makes comedian Kathleen Madigan hilarious is the forging of her Midwestern drawl with her no-nonsense, down-to-earth sensibilities. When she calls out the absurdities of her Midwestern neighbors in her most recent Netflix comedy special, “Bothering Jesus,” or rags on the beloved "hillbilly" sport of catfishing, also known as “noodling,” I can’t help but laugh — especially being a New Englander far removed from that sort of lifestyle. That’s probably the point, and she’s surely workin’ it.

Aside from touring the country on a near constant basis, Madigan frequently appears on the "Tonight Show" and had made several appearances on the "Late Show with David Letterman." She has also built up a strong reputation within the comedy world, as Jerry Seinfeld recently invited her to appear on his internet series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Big-name comedian Lewis Black has lauded her by saying she’s "the funniest comic in America, bar none" while Ron White has also said she's "easily one of the best comics alive.”

Kathleen Madigan, 8 p.m. Friday, Fox Theater Foxwoods; $36; 1-800-200-2882.
