Bill Maher returns to Foxwoods Saturday

I saw Bill Maher's standup routine at Foxwoods the week before the 2016 presidential election. The comedian/writer's tone that night was typically snide — Maher is one of Maher's biggest fans (along with myself) — and he was coasting on a surf of Trump humor because we all knew who was going to win and there was nothing to worry about.

Re-reading the review I wrote of that performance, I'm a little humbled to remember that Maher spent plenty of time slaughtering Hillary that night, too. He admitted he was voting for her but that the experience would be one of those things "like getting shot. You just do it," he said.

I've no idea what Maher will deliver Saturday when he returns to the Grand Theater but, two-plus years into post-election lunacy — on both sides, he'll be sure to point out — there should be no shortage of material. Snide? Yes, he is. But he's smart as hell and damned funny.

Bill Maher, 8 p.m. Saturday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $50-$70; 1-800-200-2882.
