One of the most popular traditions in Lyme, the Hamburg Fair, returns this weekend. And, yes, there will be rides and games, along with exhibits of farm animals and produce.

But expect more offbeat and amusing features, too.

There’s a tug of war contest at 7:30 p.m. Friday and a ladies fry pay toss contest at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Kids have all sorts of options, too, from kids axe throwing (presumably not real axes) to slime making to pie eating, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

All three days will offer pony rides and alpacas and goats on display. If anyone is hungry, there are food concessions, and any thirsty adults can hit up the beer and wine garden.

And let’s not forget the music. Among the acts: Big Hix, a modern country music tribute band, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and Mystic Dead playing Grateful Dead music from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hamburg Fair, 5-10:30 p.m. Fri., 9 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Sat., and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sun., 2 Sterling City Road, Lyme; general admission $10, free for kids 11 and under, $8 for active service members (ID required), and $8 for senior citizens; hamburgfair.org.
