The Stonington Borough Merchants Association is hosting its one-day outdoor art fair, the Sixth Annual Art Walk, to include more than 80 artists with music and food.

The Art Walk, free to the public, will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 14, with a rain/wind date of Sept. 15, and it is expected to attract artists and visitors from across New England.

Water Street between High Street and Church Street will be closed for the day to accommodate the event. Painters, illustrators, watercolorists, sculptors, potters, and photographers will line the street with tents. Artists will be tucked into courtyards and placed at storefronts stretching down to Cannon Square. New this year are additional food vendors, artists painting en plein air on Wadawanuck Square, and a play at the Lighthouse Museum.

Affiliated activities will take place in support of the Art Walk, including but not limited to:

    • Historic Stonington and Connect To Create are presenting “The Triad and the Map,” a play by Jessica Cerullo. The 30-minute performance takes place in the air-conditioned second-floor gallery of the Stonington Lighthouse. Showtimes are 10 and 11 a.m., noon, and 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 and inclusive of admission to the historic Lighthouse Museum. Tickets may be booked in advance. Suitable for ages 14+.

    • Stonington Free Library, open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. the day of the Art Walk, will host artist Leonardo Jara and will distribute free project kits for artists painting en plein air on Wadawanuck Square, while supplies last.

    • The James Merrill House (107 Water St.) will exhibit “Fans and Clouds and Bats: The Story” in their Visitor’s Center, detailing the weird, hand-printed wallpaper installed on the third-floor parlor.

    • Cove Ledge Beer, Wine and Spirits will host a group of artists in its backyard garden at 147 Water St. and will offer free tastings during the Art Walk.

    • La Grua Center at 32 Water St. features local LGBTQ+ artists from OUTCT, which is celebrating 10 years of Coming Out for Art. It will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. during the Art Walk for a suggested donation of $5. The exhibit runs through the end of October.

•Marya Ursin of Mystic Paper Beasts, a theater troupe known for its expressive mythological masks and ingenious props, will be roving throughout the event.
