Norwich Arts Center to open reconstructed gallery
The Norwich Arts Center (NAC) will open its reconstructed gallery on July 5, with a local artists exhibit and a new book.
The NAC gallery at 60 Broadway has been completely reconstructed after six months of preservation work.
The grand re-opening, from 6 to 8 p.m. July 5, will present an exhibition of works by local artists, many of whom will be present at the opening. The event takes place during the First Friday celebration in Norwich. Champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Earlier that day, the Greater Norwich Chamber of Commerce will hold a Ribbon-Cutting and Meet and Greet, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the NAC Gallery, to which all are invited.
NAC is launching a new book, “Wanderings 2024,” a collection of paintings, photography, sculpture and other works by 32 local artists, most of whom will be available to sign copies.
NAC has produced a set of colorful note cards with images by 12 local artists who have donated boxed sets of 12 different cards to benefit the organization.
The preservation work on the 1892 building includes reconstruction of the roof and resolving structural problems in the basement. The project was made possible with Direct Local Funding from the State Assembly.
The exhibition includes work by Carol Dunn, Rita Dawley, Glenn Alan Cheney, Gabe Lipman, Virginia Chase, Susan Masse, Lindsay Aromin, Brian DeVantier, Mark Patnode, Juner Patnode, Lisa Shasha, Susan Parish, Susan Scott Kenney, Howard McCalebb, Peter Leibert, Sandra Jeknavorian, Melody Knight Leary, Ralph Levesque, Gabrielle Zane and several others.
“Wanderings 2024” was published by New London Librarium. The 132-page book is available at NAC and on Amazon. All proceeds support NAC.
