Wake up and smell the garlic

What would food be without garlic? A lot less tasty, for starters.

Fortunately, that’s not a world we have to contemplate. And better yet: You can enjoy garlic in its many forms at the 16th annual Garlic Festival held this weekend at Olde Mistick Village.

Linda Womack, left, looks on as she helps Daisy Cheng-Milano, of Groton, try on a handmade garlic hat during the annual Garlic Festival in 2019 at Olde Mistick Village. The annual event features specialty garlic food as well as a variety of fresh garlic products.

So of course chefs will be whipping up and selling garlic-happy dishes, but there will be more, too: farms will be on hand, as well as crafters, artists and artisans, and musicians.

    Garlic Festival, 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. Sat. and 11 a.m-6 p.m. Sun., Olde Mistick Village, 27 Coogan Blvd., Mystic; oldemistickvillage.com.
