    H.S. XC roundup: Pepin leads Waterford past Stonington

    Waterford — Waterford used its depth to beat Stonington 23-38 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' cross country meet on Tuesday.

    Aidan Pepin of Waterford won the meet in a time of 16:18, followed by Stonington's Nathan Gonzalez (17:25) and Ryan Gruczka (17:35). Waterford (4-0, 2-0) took the next four spots with Caleb Zane (18:55), Adam Stewart (18:58), Owen Seltzer (19:04) and Luke Bartlett (19:08). Waterford and Stonington (2-2, 1-1) both beat Putnam 15-50.

    In other meets:

    • Norwich Free Academy remained unbeaten with wins over Woodstock Academy (20-42) in an ECC Division I meet and Ledyard (17-41). The Colonels (2-2) beat Woodstock 23-38. NFA (4-0, 1-0) was led by the 2-3-4-5 finish of Payton Ramsey, Timothy Jencks, Dylan McGuire and Aidan Brown while Nick Johanson was sixth for Ledyard and Woodstock's Ethan Aspiras was the overall winner.

    • Fitch swept a tri-meet at Montville, beating the host Indians 16-44 and Windham 15-50. The Indians also defeated Windham 15-50 in an ECC Division III meet. Windham's Victor Cazabal was the individual winner while Simon Chidley, Ajia Brown, Cole Aristi and Benjamin Chidley finished 2-3-4-5, respectively, for the Falcons (2-2). Nathan Bedingfield was sixth overall for the Indians (1-2, 1-0).

    • Lyman Memorial took the top three spots in a 19-41 win over Wheeler. Shane Franson won the race in 18:13, followed by Jeffry Stober and Eamon McMahon. Michael Carroll of Wheeler (1-3) was fourth at 21:09 and teammate Cameron Reyes was fifth (21:26).

    • East Lyme took the top three spots and beat St. Bernard 15-50 and host Griswold 22-35 in a tri-meet. Griswold beat St. Bernard 15-44 in an ECC Division III meet. Chris Abbey won in a time of 16:31, Fisher Macklin was second (16:33) and Luke Anthony was third (16:34). Griswold's Lucas Strain (16:46) and Michael Strain (16:51) rounded out the top five.

    Girls

    • NFA used its depth to sweep Woodstock and Ledyard. The Wildcats defeated the Centaurs 25-33 in ECC Division I and Ledyard 17-40. Elaina Duclos, Sophia Jones, Makayla Kelley and Madison Martin finished 3-4-5-6 for NFA (4-0, 1-0) while Ledyard (1-3), which lost to Woodstock 23-34, was paced by Ally Tran in seventh. Linsey Arends and Stella DiPippo were 1-2 for Woodstock.

    • East Lyme's Gilly Goodwin won the race in a time of 19:14 and teammate Madison Sjostrom was second in 19:16 as East Lyme beat St. Bernard 20-45 and host Griswold 15-50. St. Bernard beat Griswold 15-50 in an ECC Division III meet. Bridget Kunka of St. Bernard was third (19:35), Belle Johnson of East Lyme was fourth (20:10) and Serena Britner of St. Bernard was fifth (20:11).

    • Montville's Maya Suarez won individual honors on her home course as the Indians swept a tri-meet from Windham 15-50 in ECC Division III and Fitch 19-36. Fitch also beat Windham 15-50. Ava Paprocki finished third for the Falcons (1-3) before Montville (3-0, 1-0) went 4-5-6-7 behind Lindsey Beavan, Maddie Gould, Jaisey Galvin and Lexi Peck.

    • Lyman Memorial took the top three spots as beat Wheeler 23-32. Jessica Casey won the race with a time of 21:42, followed by Helen Blakeslee and Kristen Goodrich. Lulu Dominey of Wheeler (1-3) was fourth at 25:58 followed by teammates Lucy Smith (25:46) and Maddy O'Gara (28:01).

    • Stonington took the top four spots and beat Waterford 16-44 in an ECC Division II meet. Lily Anderson won the race in 21:27 and was followed by Bobbie Doherty (21:35), Sasha Oakes (22:01) and Chloe Morehouse (22:10) of Stonington (2-1, 2-0). Melissa Vine of Waterford (2-2, 1-1) was fifth at 22:26.
