Checking in with Jared: "This year was going to be the final season with everyone that I had played with and won many games with since we were 10 in travel ball. I was looking forward to ending our days of being teammates by being able to try to win another state championship in our senior year."

What you need to know about Jared: Burrows is so highly thought of that he was named the 2020 Gatorade Connecticut Baseball Player of the Year ... without the season having taken place. Burrows, who will continue his career at Hartford, pitched a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts last year as Waterford won the Class L state championship, as well as maintaining a 3.98 grade-point average and contributing to the community such as his time volunteering for the New London Community Meal Center. "I know that I worked hard and deserved this award, as I'm sure the other nominees did," Burrows said of the Gatorade honor. He called last year's state championship game one of the best he's ever played in. "Seeing everyone rush out of the dugout toward the mound after the final pitch is something I will never forget," he said. He said the coaches at Hartford "care about the players and know a lot about the game." He is interested in business, as his mom, Becky, owns her own business and dad Tim is a sales manager. Younger sister Maddie won a state championship along with the Waterford High softball team the day after Jared captured his title with the baseball team. "I am happy that Maddie got to experience winning a state championship as a freshman and hopefully she can get some more before she graduates," he said. Burrows likes to golf, ski, spend time with his friends and family and the ham grinders at Riverside Grocery. He hopes when he's done playing baseball that his golf game is as good as his dad's. Said Burrows: "I just want to thank everyone for being great teammates and, more importantly, friends throughout all of this. I am thankful to have played with such a successful and kind group of people from Little League all the way to high school. I will always remember my experience of playing with you guys as something that helped shape me into the person I am today."
