This week's interleague games will shake up The Day's H.S. football poll

It’s the first big week of games that are scheduled by the Connecticut High School Football Alliance, with several on Friday that will impact both the playoff rankings and The Day's weekly state coaches’ poll.

The biggest game is a rematch of the 2019 Class LL final — No. 5 Newtown (2-0) at No. 2 Darien (2-0). Newtown won that game, 13-7, on the game’s final play.

Top-ranked St. Joseph (2-0) travels to No. 10 Windsor (2-0), which replaced Hand in this week’s poll.

Other top matchups are No. 3 Greenwich (2-0) at Shelton (2-0); No. 4 New Canaan (2-0) at Hand (0-1); Staples (1-1) at No. 8 Cheshire (2-0) and No. 9 Xavier (2-0) at Ridgefield (0-1). All games are at 7 p.m.

St. Joseph picked up an extra first-place vote this week and has 372 points. Darien received the other first-place votes with 366 points.

Killingly (2-0) and Fitch (1-0) both received votes.
