Changes in green arrows cause confusion

I don't know why many traffic signal light patterns get altered every so often, when this can cause a major accident. You can drive the same route all the time, where you’re in the turning lane and be stopped for a red light, then once the light turns green, it's normally accompanied with a green arrow on your side. This can be the same for months on end until one day the green arrow for some unknown reason is absent. When this happens not only does it throw you off, it throws off the drivers behind you. And if you’re first in the turning lane and you're used to the green light being accompanied with the green arrow and it isn't there that time and you cross through the intersection odds of an accident have majorly increased.

This happens in Groton on Route 1 turning on to Poquonnock Road and also the light at the other end of Poquonnock Road. My advice is for everyone to contact the Connecticut State Traffic Commission to see what can be done about this possibly deadly situation before someone gets killed.
