Regarding the, “State pitches pay-as-you-throw to Montville,” (June 10), and to New London to pay for trash bags; let me share my comments. There was a statement in June 10 story that was totally wrong. The quote was, “It’s a program that work’s every single time.” This is a lie. East Lyme tried it; it did not work! It was dropped! And residents did not back this program.

Another comment said that, “Residents end up backing this program.” Senator Paul Formica was involved in East Lyme’s program years ago. He had experience with it. Recently, he has publicly said that it did not work and was dropped. Town and city officials should wake up and talk to him. Find out why it didn’t work. Benefit from his experience before mistakes are made.

Oh, since everyone wants to do away with plastic bags, why is there a push to now use more plastic bags?
