Also concerned about Otis Library funding

As a longtime volunteer at and supporter of Otis Library, I feel compelled to agree with the well-written letter, “Otis Library deserves Norwich’s fiscal support,” (June 3), submitted by Nancy Burnett. I am a former resident of Norwich and have served as president of both The Friends and the Board of Trustees. It is my opinion that this institution has played such a sustaining role in the lives of so many people in so many ways that it would seem irresponsible to allow it to suffer from underfunding.

The Otis Library has been a presence for its patrons from childhood through adulthood encouraging a love of the written word, providing guidance for schoolwork, genealogy, job searches and far too many other services to name. It is a precious and vital component in the daily life of Norwich.

I can only echo Burnett’s sentiments in imploring the powers that be in Norwich to consider the value of Otis Library and fund it accordingly.
