Maynard-Adams ready to do her part for New London

I completed the New London Streets Challenge on July 3, walking every one of 392 streets in the city. I’m a native New Londoner and was surprised to travel streets or visit neighborhoods where I’d never been. On every street I found evidence of pride of ownership. From a house on Whittlesey, with a front-porch sign “Hippies Use Back Door,” to an entrance on North Phillips Street sporting a pedestal traffic light, to homes with welcoming gardens or flying American flags, our New London spirit was everywhere. I’m proud of my city, but tired of hearing about our “great potential.”

Recent events have shocked and saddened our community. The superintendent and school board are working to determine what happened, to bring justice to students, and to ensure that this will never happen again. This important work requires the commitment and support of everyone.

Solving our problems and achieving our potential require experienced leaders who can stay focused on the road ahead to provide all our children with a first-class education and recognize and celebrate our diversity. There’s never been a more urgent time for strong leadership to achieve our city's great potential. I have a record of leadership and achievement and am ready to do my part.

    Elaine Maynard-Adams

    Board of Education candidate
