Elm Grove Cemetery superintendent shares visitor's concerns
Regarding Beverly Brown’s letter, “Robbing the dead to save on flowers,” (Nov. 8), regarding stolen flowers. Elm Grove Cemetery certainly acknowledges Mrs. Brown's concern. Personally, my own family has been the victim of petty theft of loved one’s graves at Elm Grove Cemetery. Criminal acts against loved one’s graves is disheartening and a matter we take seriously. We are ready to, and will without hesitation, report thefts to the local police department and prosecute to the letter of the law those responsible for stealing flowers or any other permitted items.
Being a quasi-public facility, it is often difficult to police such matters, but rest assured if perpetrators are caught, they will be arrested. The Elm Grove Cemetery staff, myself included, are often on the grounds willing to assist families. Visitors should never hesitate to report missing items or report suspicious activity.
